Day 6 of Raw Challenge, Day 1 of Detox
My starting weight this morning: 189.5lbs (13 stone 7.5lbs for the Brits) which is about 2 lbs down since I started the Green Smoothie challenge. I lost 2 inches off my stomach too ![]()
I’m now about 19 hours into the fast, and I have a headache but otherwise I’m fine. It’s very interesting to experience real hunger and I know exactly what Tera means when she says that when you’re really hungry you’ll eat ANYTHING and if you fancy something in particular, that’s not true hunger.
It would be good to lose some weight over the next week because I promised myself – actually made it public as well – that I’d be a size smaller when I started back at college and I’m not there yet. Although I NEARLY got a pair of size smaller pants done up last night and I don’t think I would even have got them over my hips a few weeks ago.
… fast forward 5 hours …
7:30pm I just had 2 big wedges of watermelon and a banana. I thought I would want far more than that, but I feel quite full! I have drunk LOTS of water today tho!
10:15pm 1 peach (more from tiredness/boredom than hunger). I felt irritated because something wasn’t going right and that drove me to the fruit bowl.
Had a couple of glasses of red wine later while talking online. Hmm … my excuse was that I wanted to finish the bottle because I won’t be drinking for at least another week *sigh*

Recently, I ended up with a mild head and chest cold. I never catch colds and this was a sure sign that it was time to get back to health through nutrition and take a break from eating out every day/night.
I am a health promoter and fitness professional so I decided to take my own advice. A few months ago, I quit eating all meat except certain fish and YES, I quit sushi, too. As I continue to do lot of research on the high bacterial levels found in raw fish, I decided to lay off my favorite sushi restaurants. The thought of parasites crawling inside my intestines grosses me out. With that being said and talk about polluted oceans and mercury poisoning, I’ll probably quit consuming all creatures of the sea.
I’ve combined the raw diet with other healthy meals such as natural fruit and vegetable juicing. I definitely need something warm in my belly for comfort and satisfaction which is why I’ve opted for organically home made soups.
As a recently turned vegetarian, I cook my vegetables, lentils and beans lightly to where they are still pretty crunchy. Sometimes I’ll stick them in a blender with vegetable stock, herbs and spices for a nice and hearty puree! This ensures the nutrients in the foods I consume are not destroyed in high cooking temperatures.
ps. I love my daily glasses of red wine in the cozy evenings, so I’ll have to work on laying off life’s little pleasures.

Thanks for your comment Carmen, and I agree especially as it gets colder, it’s hard to give up warm food. I also make vegetable soups and I puree half and leave half still crunchy. I feel more satisfied if I’ve “chewed” on something lol.
I also love wine but without intending to, I realised one day that I hadn’t had any for two months! I do still have an occasional glass but it doesn’t taste quite the same anymore.
